Klavierhaus

Das Stück
<<<      >>>
Die Partitur ist eine Sammlung von musikalischen Bausteinen, die von dem einzelnen Spieler an Hand vorher ausgearbeiteter Regeln zusammengesetzt werden. Die zu spielende Musik ist in drei Hauptkategorien von unterschiedlichem Charakter und Zweck geteilt: die Warteschleife-Musik ergibt das Ambiente, die Tonalität des Hauses, notiert nur als Tonhöhe, rhythmisch frei gespielt;
die Signale sind kurze, kompakte Einzelakkorde oder Motive, die als Kommunikationsmittel zwischen den einzelnen Räumen dienen;

The Piece

The score is a collection of musical building blocks, put together by each player according to rules that are previously agreed upon.

The music that is to be played is divided into three categories of varying character and purpose: the "waiting" or "idling" loop is the ambience, the tonality of the building, written solely as pitch, to be played rhythmically free;
the signals are short, compact single chords or motives that serve as a means of communication between the different rooms;
character pieces, portraying the various styles and gestures of the art of piano playing, comprise the third category, the Animation Music.

When and how the music is to be played in Piano House is decided in each and every moment anew according to the previously agreed upon rules that are a direct interpretation of the actions of the visitors.

Piano House is a theatrical production of the act of piano playing and the interaction between player and listener in direct relationship to the acoustical nature of the Villa Carstanjen. The few simple constrictions (the score and the rules) and the interaction between the many free agents (the players and the visitors) self-organise into a network of actions and reactions, that manifests itself as an autonomous and unique organism and therefore a work that portrays the vivacious nature of this house and its inhabitants.
